Roddas Creamery Offices - Business and Community

Rodda’s Creamery in Redruth is a long-standing Cornish family business, best known for its clotted cream. The company’s headquarters and creamery remain on the original farm site, reflecting its strong heritage and connection to place. However, the existing office facilities are fragmented across multiple buildings, limiting efficiency and cohesion among staff.

The project set out to consolidate these dispersed workspaces into a single, purpose-built office, bringing the team together under one roof while reinforcing the company’s identity. From the outset, a key ambition was to deliver a low-carbon, environmentally responsible building aligned with contemporary sustainability goals.

The design proposes a low carbon, single-storey office building arranged around a central planted courtyard. This form draws directly from the historic farmyard layout, completing the original courtyard configuration and respecting the site’s architectural language. The courtyard is reimagined as a shared garden space, accessible to all employees and visible from workspaces, supporting wellbeing, productivity, and a stronger connection to nature.

Existing farm buildings are retained and sensitively upgraded to accommodate a staff canteen and a new entrance sequence. This entrance includes a gallery space that tells the story of Rodda’s, celebrating its heritage, family values, and role within Cornwall’s agricultural and food culture.

Overall, the masterplan balances tradition and innovation—preserving the character of the original farmstead while introducing a cohesive, sustainable workplace that supports both the business and its people.
