Roddas Creamery Offices - Sustainable Development
OVERVIEW
Roddas creamery in Redruth is a long standing Cornish family business most famous for it’s clotted cream. The Roddas Head Quarters and Creamery is on the original farm site. Roddas wanted to improve their office facilities and bring the work team under ‘one roof’. Designing a new Office facilities at their head quarters would amalgamate the current office buildings into one cohesive scheme. Designing a low carbon building was the aim from the outset of the project.
The proposals looked at designing a new Net zero Carbon single storey office building wrapped around a planted courtyard. The existing farm buildings on the site would be upgraded to house an office canteen as well as a new entrance with a Gallery exhibiting a timeline of the company and the importance of it’s family run business.
The overall masterplan for the site looks at the original farm courtyard configuration. The new single storey building completes the farm courtyard. This courtyard becomes a planted garden which all employed have access to and can view from their desks. This was important for improving staff wellbeing as well as productivity.
